Install Restock Rocket & add the notify-me block

About 2 minutes, no code. Two parts: install the app, then place the block on your product page.

Part 1 — Install the app

  1. Open the Restock Rocket listing on the Shopify App Store and click Install.
  2. Shopify shows the permissions screen. Restock Rocket requests read access to products (to show the right variant in the widget and the email), inventory (to detect the restock), and orders (only used for recovered-sale attribution on the Pro plan). It never writes to your catalog or your orders. Click Install app.
  3. You land on the Restock Rocket dashboard inside your Shopify admin. The onboarding checklist walks you through the one remaining step: adding the block to your theme.

Plans and trial: you start on the Free plan (50 alerts/month). If you pick Growth or Pro, the 14-day free trial starts immediately and billing is handled by Shopify on your regular invoice. See billing & plans.

Part 2 — Add the block in the theme editor

Restock Rocket is a Theme App Extension: you place it visually, and nothing is ever written into your theme's code files.

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes.
  2. On your current theme, click Customize to open the theme editor.
  3. In the top-center dropdown (it usually says “Home page”), select Products → Default product. Your product template opens.
  4. In the left sidebar, inside the Product information section, click ⊕ Add block.
  5. Switch to the Apps tab and pick Restock Rocket — Notify me when available.
  6. Drag the block where you want it — most stores place it directly under the Buy buttons, so it appears exactly where the disabled “Sold out” button leaves the shopper stranded.
  7. Click Save (top right).

Nothing shows in the preview? That's expected if the previewed variant is in stock. The block renders only when the selected variant is out of stock — it stays invisible the rest of the time.

Multiple product templates? If you use several product templates (e.g. one for a specific collection), repeat the steps above for each template that should offer back-in-stock signups.

Part 3 — Verify it works

  1. Pick a test product and set one variant's inventory to 0 (Products → your product → Inventory).
  2. Open that product on your storefront in a private/incognito window and select the sold-out variant. The notify-me form should appear.
  3. Enter your own email address and submit. You should see the confirmation message, and the signup appears on your Restock Rocket dashboard within seconds.
  4. Optional full test: set the variant's inventory back to a positive number and watch your inbox — the alert email should arrive in under a minute. The measured time is logged on your dashboard.

Next step: configure the widget texts and your email branding.
